For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that who ever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life  John 3:16

In the name of the father, and the son and of the holy spirit, one God ..... Amen.

Welcome to the official website of Medhane Alem Orthodox Tewahedo church in Adelaide, SA. As we worship and glorify God according to the faith, order, tradition and history of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, we hope you find it helpful and full of information about our church and service. We are grateful for the wonderful opportunities God has provided us to serve him, and we look forward to meeting you.

We invite you to explore our Orthodox Faith with us. Not because we are perfect or better than others, but because we believe that the faith we are being taught and which we try to live in an authentic and honest manner, is the true faith, the original faith, the whole faith.

BIBLICAL CANON

The Tewahedo Church Canon contains 81 books. This canon contains the books accepted by other Orthodox Christians.

  • The Narrower Canon also contains Enoch, Jubilees, and three books of the Meqabyan

  • The Broader Canon includes all of the books found in the Narrower Canon, as well as the Josippon, two Books of the Covenant, four Books of Sinodos, an Epistle to Clement, and the Didascalia;

There have been no printings of the Broader Canon since the beginning of the twentieth century. The Haile Selassie Version of the Bible, which was published in 1962, contains the Narrower Canon.

The Oriental Orthodox Churches, which today include the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Malankara Orthodox Church of India, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, are referred to as "Non-Chalcedonian", and, sometimes by outsiders as "monophysite" (meaning "One Single Nature", in reference to Christ). However, these Churches themselves describe their Christology as miaphysite (meaning "One United Nature", in reference to Christ; the translation of the word "Tewahedo").

SERVICES

Serving our church, one another, and the world, in the way Christ first served us. John 12:26

ABOUT US

“We call our church as The Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church (EriOTC) because: - “Eritrean” because it is centered in the State of Eritrea. - And we call her “Orthodox” because the church follows the right and correct faith and doctrine. - Tewahdo is a Ge'ez word meaning "being made one"; meaning the Church believes that the Lord is perfect in His divinity, and He is perfect in His humanity, but His divinity and His humanity were united in one nature called "the nature of the incarnate word". Located in the diaspora, we aim to continue the faith of our fathers, and bring others to knowledge of the love of Christ.
